Objective:

The seminar aimed to provide insights and strategies for addressing behavioral issues in primary children through the lens of clinical child psychology, equipping educators and caregivers with effective tools to support the psychological well-being of young learners.

Introduction to Clinical Child Psychology:

The session began with an overview of clinical child psychology, highlighting its vital role in understanding and managing the psychological challenges faced by children. Participants explored the key developmental stages of childhood and recognised the significance of early intervention in fostering healthy socio-emotional growth.

Understanding Behavioral Issues in Primary Children:

A detailed analysis of common behavioural concerns among primary school children was presented, including Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), anxiety disorders, and conduct disorders. The discussion delved into underlying causes such as environmental stressors, traumatic experiences, and genetic influences, helping participants understand the multifaceted nature of these issues.

Strategies for Intervention and Support:

The seminar featured practical, evidence-based approaches for managing behavioural difficulties. Topics included behaviour modification techniques, child-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programmes, and methods for creating nurturing environments both at home and in school. The importance of collaboration among educators, parents, and mental health professionals was strongly emphasized to ensure comprehensive and sustainable support for children.
