‘Jolly Phonics’ by Mrs. Aparnasree S. (Jolly Phonics Trainer)

Objective:

The workshop aimed to introduce educators to the Jolly Phonics teaching method, providing them with practical strategies and resources to effectively teach phonics to young learners.

Introduction to Jolly Phonics:

The workshop began with an overview of the Jolly Phonics programme, highlighting its systematic approach to teaching phonics through synthetic phonics, blending and segmenting.  Participants were introduced to the key components of Jolly Phonics, including the 42 letter sounds and their corresponding actions, which engage multisensory learning.

Understanding the Ten Basic Steps to teach sounds:

Educators were guided through an in-depth understanding of the five basic skills taught in Jolly Phonics: learning the letter sounds, learning letter formation, blending, identifying sounds in words, and tricky words. Emphasis was placed on the importance of mastering these steps sequentially to build a strong foundation in phonics.

Practical Implementation Techniques:

The workshop provided practical demonstrations and activities for implementing Jolly Phonics in the classroom.  Participants engaged in hands-on exercises such as sound blending techniques, interactive activities and guided reading sessions using Jolly Phonics resources.  Strategies for differentiation and catering to diverse learning styles were also discussed.

Feedback:

Feedback from participants indicated a positive reception to the workshop, with many expressing enthusiasm about implementing Jolly Phonics in their classrooms. The practical nature of the session was particularly appreciated, as it equipped educators with tangible strategies and resources for effective phonics instruction.

Conclusion:

The workshop on Jolly Phonics provided educators with valuable insights and practical techniques for teaching phonics in an engaging and effective manner.  By empowering educators with the necessary tools and resources, the workshop aimed to enhance literacy outcomes for young learners and lay a strong foundation for their language development.
