Genesis and Vision

The SBIOA Educational Trust, sponsored by the State Bank of India Officers’ Association (Chennai Circle) – formed in 1965 – was founded in 1978 with a noble vision — to provide quality education to the children of bank officers and to extend this privilege to the community at large.  Over the decades, the Trust has emerged as a beacon of educational excellence, guided by the philosophy that education is the most powerful instrument to enlighten and empower society.

Growth and Expansion

What began as a modest initiative has blossomed into a vibrant network of 12 educational institutions, spread across Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, and Ernakulam.
These institutions cater to diverse academic streams — CBSE and Matriculation — serving the educational needs of nearly 25,000 students with the support of over 1,600 dedicated staff members.  The Trust’s steady growth stands as a testimony to its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, character formation and holistic development.

The schools under the Trust provide ample opportunities for students to nurture their artistic, athletic and leadership potential.  From NCC, Scouts & Guides, Interact Club, R.S.P. Club and J.R.C. The SBIOA Higher Academy for Research and Professional ENhancement (SHARPEN), established by the Trust, focuses on teacher training, research and innovation.

Awards and Recognitions

The schools under the SBIOA Educational Trust have consistently upheld a tradition of excellence in academics, innovation and holistic education.  Over the years, our institutions have been honoured with several state, national and international awards that recognize their commitment to quality education and their contribution to nation-building.

The SBOA School & Junior College, Chennai, has been conferred with the ‘Best Innovative School of the Year’ award at the Indywood Educational Excellence Awards and recognized as one of India’s Most Trusted Educational Institutions.  It has also received accolades for academic excellence and leadership, including the Asia Education Summit Award for Top CBSE School.  The SBOA Matriculation & Higher Secondary School was adjudged Excellent, ranking first among all the Matriculation Schools in Central Chennai in The Times Education Icon Survey-2025.

Our other institutions — including the SBOA Schools in Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem and Ernakulam — have also been lauded for their achievements.  The SBOA CBSE School, Madurai, earned the British Council International Dimension in Schools Certification, while the SBOA Public Sr. Sec. School, Ernakulam, received the Haritha Vidyalayam Award for its eco-friendly initiatives and the India K-12 Award for innovative practices in education.
