A Science Workshop was organized by SHARPEN Academy for the Science handing teachers (6 to 9) on 27.01.2024 (Saturday) from at 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon at SBOA Global School, Chennai.
The teachers of the 5 Schools in Chennai joined the workshop physically and the remaining schools joined online through google meet application.
The Resource Person for the session, Dr. V. Sudha Malini, Principal, RMK Sr. Sec. School, Thiruverkadu and an academic leader with a diverse and innovative approach empowered the teachers with her ideas on how to captivate the students’ attention.
The RP started her session on the topic ‘Science is the way of life’. She raised the questions as ‘Now-a-days, in what ways do the children get distracted and the problems faced by the teachers in the class?’ The teachers gave various answers, such as distraction by mobile, multimedia, indiscipline etc.,
She said that all these problems could be sort out once they get the interest in the classroom session by the activities and projects which should be done by the children with the teacher’s guidance. She also differentiated activity and real-life experiences.
The 40 teachers present at Chennai was split into groups of 6 members and told them to write about their favourite scientists, their inventions and the good qualities of the scientists that the teachers would appreciate.
The teachers were given time to discuss about it and each teacher was allowed to speak about the scientist selected by them. The renowned scientists Benjamin Franklin, Charles Darwin, Sir Issac Newton, Marie Curie, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, etc, were selected and their qualities and their discoveries were spoken about. The R.P. suggested that these qualities should be shared by the teachers with the students to create inspire.
This was followed by the PowerPoint presentation, through which the ways to relate the topic (lesson) to the children were elaborated.
*How to make them observe the teaching done.
*How to relate the real or practical examples with the book content.
*How to introduce the upgraded or upcoming technology related with it and its future scope.
The workshop focused on introducing various activities, real-life experiences and to have an interactive session with the children to make the class a platform to learn new things other than what the textbooks given them.

The State Bank of India Officers’ Association Educational Trust was sponsored in the year 1978 by the Association and it started educational institutions for the benefit of Officers’ children and to serve the society. This service is given irrespective of caste, creed or colour.
