Objective:
The seminar aimed to provide insights and strategies for addressing behavioral issues in primary children through the lens of clinical child psychology, equipping educators and caregivers with effective tools to support the psychological well-being of young learners.
Introduction to Clinical Child Psychology:
The seminar commenced with an overview of clinical child psychology, emphasizing its role in understanding and addressing the psychological challenges faced by children. Participants gained insights into the developmental stages of childhood and the importance of early intervention in promoting healthy socio-emotional development.
Understanding Behavioral Issues in Primary Children:
A comprehensive analysis of common behavioral issues observed in primary children was presented, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), anxiety disorders and conduct disorders. Participants learned about the underlying factors contributing to these issues, such as environmental stressors, trauma, and genetic predispositions.
Strategies for Intervention and Support:
Practical strategies and evidence-based interventions for addressing behavioral issues in primary children were discussed. Topics included behaviour modification techniques, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for children, social-emotional learning (SEL) programmes and creating supportive environments in homes and school.
