SHARPEN Academy conducted a seminar for the teachers of the Department of English. The Seminar started with a silent prayer. The main theme of the workshop was to promote a positive classroom climate, good interaction with students, positive learning and character building among students. The topic discussed was ‘The Four Forgotten Skills’.
Teachers were asked to be updated to current knowledge. Many methodologies and innovative methods for teaching students were discussed. Some of the methods of teaching kindergarten kids like play with the students make use of toys and tools to introduce some new alphabets. Touch and learn method and strategies of interactive way of classroom like co-operative learning, flipped classroom, inquiry based learning, student centered approach were discussed in the workshop.
The role of phonetics in our daily life and the need of it in the classroom were highlighted. Teachers were instructed to teach the phonetics in a simple manner starting from the text book. Teachers can enhance their way of pronouncing a word, vocabulary and communication through various online courses. Teachers can assess the students’ reading by conducting reading tests. If the students went wrong in pronunciation teachers were asked to do spot and immediate correction, so that students can rectify their mistakes immediately. Teachers were also asked to check their spelling, pronunciation and their communication before delivering it to the students. The seminar ended with an activity where the resource person shared a link to the teachers and they were asked to attend the questions given in the link to check their proficiency in the English language. It was really a thought provoking seminar, where teachers had a valuable time with the resource person and clarified the doubts regarding the subject and also the classroom management.

The State Bank of India Officers’ Association Educational Trust was sponsored in the year 1978 by the Association and it started educational institutions for the benefit of Officers’ children and to serve the society.
